This article, from the Edmonton Journal (Alberta, Canada) was written by Elizabeth Withey, who “wanted to know: Do the arts exist in Alberta jails?” She visited three federal prisons, and writes about Pathways, a program used to connect the aboriginal prisoners to their traditional cultural practices — including beadwork. Highlighted is prisoner Richard Moosewah, who discusses his beadwork and how it helps him.

Beaded molecules

Five scientists in Taiwan have a wonderful blog, The Beaded Molecules : the wonderful world of beaded fullerenes, where they show examples of how they use spherical beads to represent represent chemical bonds. Their recent blog post includes pdfs of  two articles that they have written — one written in Chinese two years ago, and one just published in English in The Journal of the Chinese Chemical Society. Click on the various promising molecule names in the column on the right in the blog for some wonderful shapes.
