The mineral specimens were my favorite part of the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History:

The Hope Diamond and other outstanding examples of gems, set into jewelry and displayed as cut gems are also on display. This is the Wittelsbach-Graff diamond, perhaps from the same mine as the Hope:
