Joyce Scott in New Orleans and Baltimore!

If you’re near either of these cities, please consider these two possibilities: as part of Prospect.2 New Orleans, which bills itself as the largest biennial of international art, Joyce Scott is exhibiting. She is going to be at the Newcomb Art Gallery at Tulane University, paired with fabric sculptor Nick Cave. Those show dates are October 20th – January 29th.

The Maryland Institute College of Art is hosting Transformations: New Directions in Black Art October 22nd – 25th. There’s a wide variety of events, and Joyce is involved with two of them. She’s part of a panel entitled “Art and Craft: Closing the Gaps,” with a charge of examining “through the experience of its artist participants habitual and distinctive approaches to art making that reveal a cultural bias towards a material approach to art.”

Joyce’s other participation point is a piece of performance art! I’ve heard her sing, she has a VOICE. I don’t know what she’s doing; the piece is entitled “Synergy,” in performance with Ormond White with the American Studio Orchestra.

If you go to any of these things, please comment and let me know! I’ll be enviously happy for you…
