Finished twisted right angle weave necklace, BFAC 2011

I’m quite pleased with this necklace. The beads selected by Beki from Out on a Whim are beautiful, and were easy to use. My twisted right angle weave stitch variant makes a lovely, flexible rope, with the drop beads adding texture. The pendant and bar of the clasp create strong horizontal lines to contrast with twisting texture of the rope.

Beading for a Cure combines a beading challenge and a competition on an annual basis to raise money for the National Colorectal Cancer Research Association, in memory of beader Layne Shilling. Everyone purchases the same kit of beads (I believe 75 kits were sold this year), and we all must use at least one of each bead, and may only add one additional bead.

Auctions begin in March 2011. I will post again when the auctions begin!

  1. Oh, wow! You know, I was totally in love with the piece you created for the 2010 BFAC auction, and I won it. I may have to make sure that I win this one, too…

    • Thanks so much for the lovely comment! (I won’t hold you to it. ) It really turned out, I didn’t feel I had to force a bead to fit in my final piece, which I think makes for a truly cohesive piece of beadwork.

  2. WOW, Dulcey that is lovely! I’d love to pick it up & caress it. I’m jealous of Kate B. getting to actually handle it

    • Thank you, Dot! I’m jealous of Kate for being able to see all 75 (?) projects – I’d be tempted to take them all out (sitting on top of their packaging and info sheet) and look at them all at the same time. Wouldn’t that be grand??

    • Thank you, Catherine! This is a better photo than the others I tried to take of it. I am planning on buying better lights and making a better light tent. I would like to be able to take better pictures consistently.

  3. What a lovely necklace! RAW is one of my favourite stitches so I really like this variations. Not just because it’s a spiral, but because of the nice texture too. Just stumbled over your blogged while being bored and, on a whim, googling “new beading stitch” — lucky me. 🙂

I noticed in the “introducing a new beading stitch variant” post that you said you were hoping to write instructions for the technique. I’d love to buy a tut when it’s finished.

  4. I really adore the colors in this piece. I would never have guessed the structure of that cable if you hadn’t told us. I like the bumpy texture of it, but my real favorite is the beaded bead!

    • Thanks, Gwen! You can see how flexible this is where one rope is draped over the other at the clasp, and I think it doesn’t look like right angle weave either. Beki did a great job picking colors.
