Beading Lake Superior

Lake-Superior-beaded-rock

Embellishing one small rock from Lake Superior’s shores…

I am providing this as part of a gift basket for a silent auction, with the theme of Minnesota.

  1. I won this fabulous piece at the ARLIS auction. I’m looking at your blog to find out more about how you do this technique. I love how this piece celebrates the natural beauty of the stone. I’m from Michigan and share in the awe and wonder that is lake Superior 🙂

    • I’m so pleased to hear from you! Thank you for letting me know that you ended up with my rock. It’s square stitch, cinched in to hold the rock by using the smaller bronze beads in the outside rows. It’s quite straightforward as there’s no increasing or decreasing. I saw the technique on a French language beading blog years ago, and wanted to try it myself.

Michigan – awesome state! I’ve visited just a few times, the Upper Peninsula and the Keweenaw Peninsula couple times, Pictured Rocks, the car ferry across Lake Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and across the Mackinac Bridge. The outdoor stuff. I do know there’s more in Michigan than that. 🙂 (But I still want to see Turnip Rock sometime.)
