My social media tagline is “reading, beading, eating librarian.” That is a good four word summary, with the descriptors of “librarian” changing priorities based on my current interests and projects. In addition to beading, I also sew and dabble in other handwork. I cook and bake to fuel my eating. As a librarian, I work for a public library and an arts library. My home in the Minneapolis-St.Paul, Minnesota metro area is rich in the arts and arts education, and I am fortunate to be able to enjoy both.
Designing artwork with tiny beads and thread is a contemplative process, where I can get lost in crafting the piece I’ve envisioned. I am inspired by nature, other forms of art, and by the beads themselves — sometimes a single bead can spark an entire piece. Translating these inspirations into realities is an artistic challenge, a designing puzzle, and sometimes a mathematical test.
